Caroline Cloos was still-born on May 1, 1992 at Saint David’s Hospital in Austin, Texas. Her parents and family were devastated, and while in their early grieving period, they were supported by an excellent team of the hospital’s labor and delivery nurses, chaplains, and grief counselors. Upon the urging of those nurses, particularly of Wanda Lary, now retired and living near Waco, and with input from Rhonda Cloos, Baby Caroline’s mother, a committee was founded in the fall of that year to initiate a special fund to continue the compassionate work of the team. This is now The Caroline Committee.
Part of the funding is used for printed material and counseling offered to parents dealing with the still-birth experience. It also funds the preparation of a beautiful, white lace, hand-covered box which holds a lock of the infant’s hair, the blanket which first held the baby, a card with its tiny foot prints, and a silver heart with a heart-shaped hole in it on a silver chain. This fund is now called The Caroline Fund.
